Preparations.

Getting ready for SDCC is always kind of harrowing and twitch inducing. No kidding. I get an actually tic in my eye from the stress. Every. Darn. Year. *sigh*

I was trying to get ahead this year, but I also was trying to move into a new home, paint, decorate, pack, unpack and you know...it just got away from me.

But things are moving and there will be some new stuff at SDCC. Like this lovely button...

And last year we debuted our  “Superpower” line of...let’s call them talismans...intended to remind you that we all have some powers.

I intentionally didn’t call them “Superhero” because of this guy (who was featured on bracelets and necklaces)...
...and is intended to remind you that sometimes you have to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

This year, his sometimes girlfriend will be joining him on rings and hair clips...

So, if you’ve got your tickets, please do come look for me at Comic-Con with the Tired Girl Collective (I’ll post more info later). And if you don't have your tickets...well...maybe next year.

Rock out.

I could swear she was here before...but if not, now she is. Ladies, commence rocking.

Two nerds and a dork.

I really like making buttons and badges. And it seems that people really like buying them. They are usually one of the things that sells out at conventions. It would seem that people really like their labels. They like to tell the world that they are nerds, dorks and geeks. And I can't say I blame them. I am a proud nerdy girl, and I often wear the badge to prove it.

Poor Harley.

Poor Harley. She’s go no body. Guess I’ll have to work on that.

Happy New Year.

I could get into the Chinese New Year. It gives me a little more time to get myself together. Well...not technically, but it feels like it does.

Tried some new stuff here. Not sure it worked but it was fun to attempt. Dragons are hard to draw, man.

Collaboration.

So, I recently acquired a new nephew. He’s not an adorable toddler but he’ll do, I guess. He’s actually a college student and a musician. And my mom was concerned about making him feel welcome as part of our family this Christmas. She wanted to give him something to let him know that she was interested in his life, and was learning about him. All very nice for a step-grandmother, I think. But somehow I got mixed up in all this.

You see, she called me with a “job.” She wanted me to make a piece of art for him, depicting him doing some of his favorite things in his favorite places...you get the drift here, right? Except, if you know my mom, which you might because that woman knows everyone, then you also know that she has a very complicated way of describing things.

There was a lengthy phone call with many confusing directions and conflicting ideas. There was a lot of  “draw him in this place that neither one of us has ever seen but it won’t matter, ” kind of stuff. So I dug in, I knuckled down and I googled the heck out of everything I could find about this guy. And this is what came of it.

I think it came out kinda cute. But I don't have his permission to post it here, so I’ve allowed him to retain his anonymity. Sort of.

(Honestly, I wish I could show you the original notes for this thing. He was to be in a “convertible, wearing a cardinal, silver and black scarf, driving right to left down the beach in front of The Hangout. Maybe put a palm tree in it. Have him singing ‘The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.’”
Obviously, I took some liberties.)
