Bah Humbug Snowman.
Ok, well, I am dipping into the archives this week because I am traveling. But I have so many darn snowmen, I feel the need to share. Here’s one from around 2006...and he’s not happy at all!

Bellydancer.
A friend was looking for some music for bellydance rehearsal, so I made her a mix cd and drew some girly art to adorn the front. (I left the music listing on in case you were curious as to what I think might be fun for bellydance practice.)

Bad Snowman.
Lest I get too saccharine...a naughty little snowman makes and appearance. I actually just came across this guy in my files and thought...hmmm...must have had a bad day....

Mod Tree.
An attempt at something new sometimes makes for something...new. I rather like this simple, pop-arty little tree. It’s made me really want to revisit the concept and do a whole line of mod images...well...when I have time, that is.

Snowman, snowman.
I draw a lot of snowmen. It’s something of a tradition. They are...simple. And yet they can be very expressive. OK, this one isn’t THAT expressive, but he’s still kinda cute.

Cute Little Cupcake!
I’ve been working on a new pin-up girl. She’s not done yet but I wanted to show you how she’s coming along.
I really get a kick out of drawing these pin-ups and I think my favorite part about it is trying to make them demure and sensible. Granted, it’s very unlikely that any semi-nude girl is going to lie down in a giant cupcake, but I am pretty sure if she did, she’s be wearing knickers. Really, it’s just a good idea on all counts.

Yeah...still not there...
It’s not that I don’t like the holiday season, I just don’t seem to have much time for it at the moment!

Happy Hanukkah!
I almost forgot. Working on a card for mixed religion greetings. It kind of works on two levels, if you think about it...

Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ve got a lot to be thankful for. Not being a turkey is only the beginning. But I am thankful everytime someone stops by my little blog. Thank you for letting me share my goofy drawings with you! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Corny-copia.
And so it begins. The holiday season starts here. Actually, it started waaaay over there, but I wasn’t paying attention. But if you were, you'll probably notice the similarities between this and my Fresh and Easy art. Yeah, happy food. Which is a change for me. I tend to draw a lot of “rude food”. Go figure.

Back!
Oops. Got a little sidetracked by life there. Sorry! But I am back...from outer space...you just walked in to find me here with that...wait...no...
Well, since I took the week (or so) off I am making up for it by posting a few different things. First up, a rough for my cupcake book.
I am actually not that big a carrot cake fan, but if my carrot cake was delivered by a tiny fluffy bunny, I might change my mind.
Next...
I told myself that I would get a tattoo for my birthday, but I chickened out. Maybe next year. Until then, a very old image, the first of my nekkid ladies, actually. She sports part of the tattoo I have designed for myself...but I am too chicken to get...
And, as a matter of fact, she was an old “Illustration Friday” piece for the theme “Fresh”. She is titled Fresh (Ink).
Speaking of fresh. I did a quick design for a contest a while back. I was attempting to win a year of groceries from Fresh & Easy. To be honest, I think my concept was cute but I didn’t spend enough time on it. When I saw the winning designs I realized that I was so far off the mark of what they were interested in as to be ridiculous. Ah well.

Is it autumn yet?
Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is it’s way...it must be fall now, right? RIGHT? Because the weather thing on my iPod it telling me it’s gonna be in the NINETIES tomorrow.
I guess this is no time to think about knitting, wooly yarns and cozy sweaters, is it? Oh, don't get me wrong, I’m not complaining...I like the warm weather (not to keen on the dry winds, but you can’t have it all, right?). But, this dreamy knitting girl with have to do for now, I need to think on new pictures...I’m not sure I can offer a month of Thanksgiving images...

Monsters.
More classic monsters, this time from an old card. I am rather fond of the bat on top and the wolfman. I’m not so good with the scary stuff. I think that's become pretty clear...

The Bride.
I have always felt kinda bad for the Bride. I mean, here she is...dead...all the various parts of her. And then the next thing she knows, wide awake and staring at a monster who wants to make her his woman. Kinda unfair really. And man, Elsa Lancaster? Cute girl. The Bride? Bad hair.
Originally, my bride had the bad hair too, but I felt that she deserved a bit of an update. I went for waifish kind of eerie. Less shocking hair and screaming.

Devils and Devil's Food.
Being born and raised in New Jersey, I am reasonably well versed in the lore of the Jersey Devil, a beast with the wings of a bat, the head of a horse and the body of a...kangaroo (well, that’s what some say)? Every kid who grew up in South Jersey in the 70’s has seen countless filmstrips and heard the tales of Mother Leed’s thirteenth child.
Whatever it was, it certainly spawned a lot of folktales...and a hockey team....

My version is a little static but I was going for cute more than anything. Oh, and that party hat? He’s from a birthday card. What? Devils like to have fun too!
And what do they eat at parties?
Well, duh.
Oh, and by the way, I think I know what the Jersey Devil is...
Check out the Hammerhead Bat.

Skulls and...skulls.
Whew, a very early morning has got me feeling worn down...to the bone, perhaps? (I totally have to give up on the pun thing).
And a safety first brain case...
I know, I know, not terribly exciting. I’ll try again tomorrow.
A few skulls will have to do for today....Kind of pretty in pink?

Two zombies and a monster.
I don’t particularly like zombies. Especially the gooey kind. But I can’t quite keep away from them. I posted my zombie pin-up a while back, and I posted a little hipster zombie girl and today, I even watched the un-aired pilot for Babylon Fields, which was a zombie tv show (it had great potential). And I was thinking about zombies when I went to the archives to find something to post today (this blog is a mix of new sketches, and archived stuff I’ve been collecting over the years). So these two examples of zombie art were unearthed...get it? Unearthed...
This one for a business card:
And this one for a cd cover:

And this one for a cd cover:
I don’t think either of them were ever used. (That second zombie looks like a real stiff...that's a totally unanimated hand...hee hee!). And here are some monster feet that were never used either. These were part of a proposal for a some buttons to be used as promotion for a particular horror themed baking blog:
And you know what? I am planning on another zombie drawing before the month is out. Man, I really hate zombies...

Spooky Kitty.
Here’s the other spooky black cat I have...but I am thinking about adding some more to the litter...

Domino Mask.
Well, again, she’s a little sketchy, and with that mask, in more ways than one! But I really wanted to try a kind of portrait today. And I really wanted to draw a masked girl...so...there you go.
I’m gonna try to stick with the Halloween theme until Halloween actually happens, but I just found out today that I will be vending at Unique L.A. with some of the Tired Girl Collective. So, if you are in Los Angeles on December 11th and 12th, you should totally check us out. Totally.
But that also means I’d better get my butt in gear and do some stuff to celebrate OTHER holidays, doesn't it? Yikes!

Monsters.
Have you seen the Goodwill Halloween poster? It’s meant to encourage people to shop for costumes at Goodwill stores. Which is a really good idea. But it's also a really nicely designed piece of advertising art. See that last little block? That's the Goodwill logo. Groovy, eh?
Well, after seeing on on a billboard last night, I was inspired. I just wanted to draw very simple version of some Halloween type critters.
They were fun. And I couldn’t decide who to include. I feel like I could keep adding...werewolf, swamp creature...ghost...hmmm...I think I may have to revist this idea.

Little Miss Fit.
Trying hard to keep that Halloween thing going...Little Miss Fit is a bit of a sketch, but I think she’s kinda cute.

One Black Cat.
Ahh...now there’s a Halloween-y image. This is from a set of two black cats, perhaps I’ll post the other later in the month.
By the way....moons are hard to draw.

Tofu or not tofu.
I wanted to post a nice Halloween image today, It’s getting close and I keep forgetting about it, but I couldn’t find the one I wanted. In my search I came across this and...for the life of me, I couldn't remember why I drew it. After some thought and investigation, it appears that I drew it after attending a tofu festival. Ok. Sure. I guess I did.

Messing around with Hellboy.
I kinda love Hellboy. Like, I’ve picked out our wedding bands kind of love. Oh, it’s serious...for a fictional character, anyway.

Hey there, chickadee!
I love drawing birds. Actually, I love birds. I even took a bird watching class in college. Had to get up really early. It’s easier to draw them.

Dead Sexy, a little demure gore.
In honor of the beginning of October, the month of chills and terror and things that go bump in the night...I offer you my original nerdy girl.
I am no fan of zombie movies...well...that's not exactly true (Shaun of the Dead is one of my all time favorites!)...I’m not a fan of horror (No, wait, I love Nightmare on Elm Street!)...that's not true either...hmmm...well, I was trying to make a sexy zombie. And I think I did an OK job. I was told that she is pleasingly demure and sports just the right amount of gore. Disturbingly, she also looks an awful lot like my friend Monika, which I SWEAR was pure happenstance.

Spoiled.
I’m very fond of this little guy. He’s adorned bags, keychains, cards, pins and, my favorite, baby onesies. He’s part of a series of rude food. But he’s really one of a kind.

Mommy X-ing.
I went to a baby shower over the weekend. Baby showers are not really my thing, but I've been to a lot of them. Luckily I have a card all ready for any emergency showering...

Ahoy There!
This particular pirate is part of a set of four. She's kinda feisty, this one. And she was created for a friend who gave me the basic description of a “red-headed pirate girl.” So...she's got red hair...and she’s a pirate. How’s that for following directions?

Two types of flowers.
It’s twofer Friday! Two flowers for the price of one post. Actually, there are three flowers...two types...but...that’s really not the point.
Here’s a buttercup I did a long time ago that I am thinkning about reworking into a card...
And this...
Here’s a buttercup I did a long time ago that I am thinkning about reworking into a card...
The buttercup originally appeared in a little greeting card/book I made for San Diego Comic Con several years ago. It was called “Sweet Talk” and it was an picture book of pet names.
And this...
is a project I worked on with my mom for her philanthropic organization. Mom designed the layout, I executed the final art from her design. It’s all about the teamwork, people!
There you go, two types of flowers for your Friday.
