I think I am just going to post some Christmas art for the next few days...because I can. Happy holler-days, ya'll. Have fun, be safe and do what you love to do. See you in the new year!

Tink

I honestly have nothing much to say about ol' Tinker Bell (that’s right...Tinker...space...Bell). I was looking at a picture of Disney’s fairy, and reading a bit about Barrie’s fairy and I wanted something a little different. I wanted a fairy that could disappear into the trees and looked as if she had bad-ass kind of things to do. So I drew her. That is all.

When did you forget you were a flower?

I don’t do portraits very often (mostly because they are really hard!), but lately I’ve been thinking about drawing more and trying new things. Allen Ginsberg is one of my favorite poets. Check out “Sunflower Sutra”...if you are over 18 and don’t mind a little racy language...

Here we go.

Sooo, how ya been? Been a while, no? I realized that I haven't really been drawing lately, mostly because I’ve been doing other things. But I am trying to get back in the habit. But I haven’t. Well,  I have but not really. You know? No?

How to explain...I am doing a pro-bono free lance gig. And that kind of saps me a bit. So here is one of the rejected images, because despite being a reject, I still think it has it’s merits...

And then there's this cat. For no reason. I just like him.

I think I might have to find something to do with him. I mean, he’s a sketch. I told you I am trying to sketch more. But he has some potential.

And then there’s this. Because it's a freakin' gummy bear, ok?

Ok. Well, back to it. I gotta go do some sketching. No, really, this time I mean it.

Still pretty tired.

I feel like there are probably things I should be telling you about Comic-Con, but I can’t remember any of them. It was long. It was fun. It was exhausting.

I talked to a handsome man who I think was named Ricardo, and it wasn’t until he had purchased a print and we had a discussion about it that I realized that he was surrounded by cameras, both video and non, and that he was “someone.” But I don't know who. He was very nice. Knew his comic book history, spoke with an accent, mentioned his girlfriend and when a young woman asked him to pose for a picture as he walked away from me, I heard him ask her if she was “a Latina” and when she confirmed that she was, he spoke to her a little in Spanish, told her that her costume was beautiful and that she was beautiful and then strode away, calling over his shoulder, “Be sure to watch me on....” and then I couldn’t hear him anymore. And I wish I knew who he was, but have you ever tried to good “handsome Latino actor named Ricardo” because while it's a very pleasurable way to spend your time, it doesn’t help.

Ok, so, there was a little bit of new stuff this year, and I am just gonna show it to you because...well, that’s what I do. Ok? Ok.

New Batman charm...

New TARDIS button...

Proof of early man’s cupcake hunts...

And my preferred house of worship...
.

That kind of sums it up, no?

Skullerfly

New blog card art.

Are You My Mummy?

New for SDCC 2012...if you are a Whovian, than it's a question that makes your skin crawl. If you are not...well...sorry. Just trust us, it’s totally creepy.

Preparations.

Getting ready for SDCC is always kind of harrowing and twitch inducing. No kidding. I get an actually tic in my eye from the stress. Every. Darn. Year. *sigh*

I was trying to get ahead this year, but I also was trying to move into a new home, paint, decorate, pack, unpack and you know...it just got away from me.

But things are moving and there will be some new stuff at SDCC. Like this lovely button...

And last year we debuted our  “Superpower” line of...let’s call them talismans...intended to remind you that we all have some powers.

I intentionally didn’t call them “Superhero” because of this guy (who was featured on bracelets and necklaces)...
...and is intended to remind you that sometimes you have to laugh at the absurdity of it all.

This year, his sometimes girlfriend will be joining him on rings and hair clips...

So, if you’ve got your tickets, please do come look for me at Comic-Con with the Tired Girl Collective (I’ll post more info later). And if you don't have your tickets...well...maybe next year.

Rock out.

I could swear she was here before...but if not, now she is. Ladies, commence rocking.

Two nerds and a dork.

I really like making buttons and badges. And it seems that people really like buying them. They are usually one of the things that sells out at conventions. It would seem that people really like their labels. They like to tell the world that they are nerds, dorks and geeks. And I can't say I blame them. I am a proud nerdy girl, and I often wear the badge to prove it.

Poor Harley.

Poor Harley. She’s go no body. Guess I’ll have to work on that.

Happy New Year.

I could get into the Chinese New Year. It gives me a little more time to get myself together. Well...not technically, but it feels like it does.

Tried some new stuff here. Not sure it worked but it was fun to attempt. Dragons are hard to draw, man.

Collaboration.

So, I recently acquired a new nephew. He’s not an adorable toddler but he’ll do, I guess. He’s actually a college student and a musician. And my mom was concerned about making him feel welcome as part of our family this Christmas. She wanted to give him something to let him know that she was interested in his life, and was learning about him. All very nice for a step-grandmother, I think. But somehow I got mixed up in all this.

You see, she called me with a “job.” She wanted me to make a piece of art for him, depicting him doing some of his favorite things in his favorite places...you get the drift here, right? Except, if you know my mom, which you might because that woman knows everyone, then you also know that she has a very complicated way of describing things.

There was a lengthy phone call with many confusing directions and conflicting ideas. There was a lot of  “draw him in this place that neither one of us has ever seen but it won’t matter, ” kind of stuff. So I dug in, I knuckled down and I googled the heck out of everything I could find about this guy. And this is what came of it.

I think it came out kinda cute. But I don't have his permission to post it here, so I’ve allowed him to retain his anonymity. Sort of.

(Honestly, I wish I could show you the original notes for this thing. He was to be in a “convertible, wearing a cardinal, silver and black scarf, driving right to left down the beach in front of The Hangout. Maybe put a palm tree in it. Have him singing ‘The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.’”
Obviously, I took some liberties.)
