Happy Halloween!

Also Happy All Saints and All Souls days. Happy everything.

Monsters.

More classic monsters, this time from an old card. I am rather fond of the bat on top and the wolfman. I’m not so good with the scary stuff. I think that's become pretty clear...

The Bride.

I have always felt kinda bad for the Bride. I mean, here she is...dead...all the various parts of her. And then the next thing she knows, wide awake and staring at a monster who wants to make her his woman. Kinda unfair really. And man, Elsa Lancaster? Cute girl. The Bride? Bad hair.

Originally, my bride had the bad hair too, but I felt that she deserved a bit of an update. I went for waifish kind of eerie. Less shocking hair and screaming.

Devils and Devil's Food.

Being born and raised in New Jersey, I am reasonably well versed in the lore of the Jersey Devil, a beast with the wings of a bat, the head of a horse and the body of a...kangaroo (well, that’s what some say)? Every kid who grew up in South Jersey in the 70’s has seen countless filmstrips and heard the tales of Mother Leed’s thirteenth child.

Whatever it was, it certainly spawned a lot of folktales...and a hockey team....

My version is a little static but I was going for cute more than anything. Oh, and that party hat? He’s from a birthday card. What? Devils like to have fun too!

And what do they eat at parties?

Well, duh.

Oh, and by the way, I think I know what the Jersey Devil is...

Check out the Hammerhead Bat.

Skulls and...skulls.

Whew, a very early morning has got me feeling worn down...to the bone, perhaps? (I totally have to give up on the pun thing).

A few skulls will have to do for today....Kind of pretty in pink?

And a safety first brain case...

I know, I know, not terribly exciting. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Two zombies and a monster.

I don’t particularly like zombies. Especially the gooey kind. But I can’t quite keep away from them. I posted my zombie pin-up a while back, and I posted a little hipster zombie girl and today, I even watched the un-aired pilot for Babylon Fields, which was a zombie tv show (it had great potential). And I was thinking about zombies when I went to the archives to find something to post today (this blog is a mix of new sketches, and archived stuff I’ve been collecting over the years). So these two examples of zombie art were unearthed...get it? Unearthed...

This one for a business card:

And this one for a cd cover:

I don’t think either of them were ever used. (That second zombie looks like a real stiff...that's a totally unanimated hand...hee hee!). And here are some monster feet that were never used either. These were part of a proposal for a some buttons to be used as promotion for a particular horror themed baking blog:

And you know what? I am planning on another zombie drawing before the month is out. Man, I really hate zombies...

Spooky Kitty.

Here’s the other spooky black cat I have...but I am thinking about adding some more to the litter...

Domino Mask.

Well, again, she’s a little sketchy, and with that mask, in more ways than one! But I really wanted to try a kind of portrait today. And I really wanted to draw a masked girl...so...there you go.

I’m gonna try to stick with the Halloween theme until Halloween actually happens, but I just found out today that I will be vending at Unique L.A. with some of the Tired Girl Collective. So, if you are in Los Angeles on December 11th and 12th, you should totally check us out. Totally.

But that also means I’d better get my butt in gear and do some stuff to celebrate OTHER holidays, doesn't it? Yikes!

Monsters.

Have you seen the Goodwill Halloween poster? It’s meant to encourage people to shop for costumes at Goodwill stores. Which is a really good idea. But it's also a really nicely designed piece of advertising art. See that last little block? That's the Goodwill logo. Groovy, eh?

Well, after seeing on on a billboard last night, I was inspired. I just wanted to draw very simple version of some Halloween type critters.

They were fun. And I couldn’t decide who to include. I feel like I could keep adding...werewolf, swamp creature...ghost...hmmm...I think I may have to revist this idea.

Little Miss Fit.

Trying hard to keep that Halloween thing going...Little Miss Fit is a bit of a sketch, but I think she’s kinda cute.

Batty.

Trying to keep that Halloween thing going...and it’s driving me batty...get it?

One Black Cat.

Ahh...now there’s a Halloween-y image. This is from a set of two black cats, perhaps I’ll post the other later in the month.

By the way....moons are hard to draw.

Tofu or not tofu.

I wanted to post a nice Halloween image today, It’s getting close and I keep forgetting about it, but I couldn’t find the one I wanted. In my search I came across this and...for the life of me, I couldn't remember why I drew it. After some thought and investigation, it appears that I drew it after attending a tofu festival. Ok. Sure. I guess I did.

Messing around with Hellboy.

I kinda love Hellboy. Like, I’ve picked out our wedding bands kind of love. Oh, it’s serious...for a fictional character, anyway.

Adorable Little Ood.

He’s still a bit of a work in progress, but I love me some Ood. So...darn...sweet.

Hey there, chickadee!

I love drawing birds. Actually, I love birds. I even took a bird watching class in college. Had to get up really early. It’s easier to draw them.

Dead Sexy, a little demure gore.

In honor of the beginning of October, the month of chills and terror and things that go bump in the night...I offer you my original nerdy girl.

I am no fan of zombie movies...well...that's not exactly true (Shaun of the Dead is one of my all time favorites!)...I’m not a fan of horror (No, wait, I love Nightmare on Elm Street!)...that's not true either...hmmm...well, I was trying to make a sexy zombie. And I think I did an OK job. I was told that she is pleasingly demure and sports just the right amount of gore. Disturbingly, she also looks an awful lot like my friend Monika, which I SWEAR was pure happenstance.
